Writing about things
Usually when you start a project, you should have some sort of goal in mind for what you want to accomplish. Here are some of the goals of this project.
1: Just do a new cool thing
I have been thinking about starting a writing thing for awhile, but never actually got around to it. My AP Lang teacher really inflated my ego about my writing skills, so I have to assume they arent terrible because I never really tried to get good at writing, so if I was just “good” at it for no reason that implies I should pursue it a little more. Nevertheless, it is fun to just do a new thing. I wanted to start something where its not technical, uses some amount of brainpower, and isnt a video game.
2. Written things are written.
To continue the previous video game point, video games are awesome, but they can be not super memorable. Writing, by definition, leaves some sort of legacy. A gaming session is quickly forgotten unless some rare high moment happens, and even then, theres pretty little chance that memory lasts more than a few years or so. Just right now, I have a few distant gaming memories, but not a ton. This is by no means a gaming ban. But I shouldnt spend too much time playing them. Anyway, perhaps I will be looking back on this at some far date in the future. Or not. I dont know.
3. Gain new insights
When you think about stuff, you reach some sort of point thats at the end of your knowledge. For some reason, I find it easier to collect my thoughts on a typed page rather than speech. Sometimes. I think its because just sitting at my computer is pretty relaxed and anxiety free. Real world situations where speech is necessarily are not anxiety free. Anyway, if Im just typing about my thoughts and I reach that knowledge limit then I can do some research, write about it, remember it, and have that new insight to share in real life.
4. Practice thinking
Thinking is (hopefully) a skill that you can improve, slow the degradation of, and practice. Writing is another means to those ends. This would be a useful thing in my day job. Im not stupid, but who doesnt want to get smarter?
